Inclining Experiments

INCLINING EXPERIMENTS

An Inclining Experiment, coupled with a Lightship Survey, is the vital basis for all stability information books.

Some small commercial, recreational vessels and inland waterways vessels not requiring detailed stability information are assessed using a Heel Test in lieu of inclining.

Pratt Naval Architecture has carried out a large number of inclining experiments on a wide range of vessels including large yachts, small commercial vessels, yachts and amphibious vehicles, as well as heel tests.

We can arrange and conduct inclining experiments in accordance with Classification Society or National Authority requirements such as the UK’s MCA.

Depending upon the circumstances, a combination of pendulums, accurate calibrated electronic inclinometer or manometer will be employed.

We also undertake scrutiny of stability information and inclining reports prior to approval on behalf of a UK Certifying Authority.
