LIGHTSHIP SURVEYS
At intervals, regulators like the UK’s MCA require both large and small vessels in commercial use to be assessed to ensure their weight and centre of gravity has not changed more than the allowed tolerance so that stability data remains valid.
We work on behalf of Owners together with MCA and Class surveyors, Master and crew to carry out the measurements and analysis needed.
Where changes exceed the tolerance, it is usually necessary to carry out a new inclining experiment and re-assess stability, a not insignificant undertaking so it is vital to carry out the Lightship Survey consistently each time.
To ensure accuracy some owners will completely unload a vessel of anything considered part of the “Lightship” weight, reducing the number of calculated adjustments to a minimum.
