Laser Scanning

Where drawings of a vessel are not available, or not up to date,  Pratt Naval Architecture can scan vessels – both exterior and interior.

The time required on-site is quite short and the results are much more comprehensive than traditional methods and superior to standard laser theodolites.

The scan comprises many millions of closely spaced data points at high accuracy.

Depending upon the work required, we can use the scan data itself or model the vessel using 3D CAD and Naval Architecture software as a basis for design work or technical calculations, for example:

  • Design of modifications.
  • Stability information, both intact and damage.
  • Powering predictions.
  • Structural analysis.
  • Global or local distortion assessment.
  • Assessment of build accuracy compared to design.
